We try, wherever possible, to find new homes for the pet animals who comes to us and return wildlife we care for to the wild. However, this is not always possible.
Sometimes a pet comes to us who has health issues, who is elderly or whose past has left them traumatised. In these circumstances we sometimes make the decision that it would be unfair to the animal to unsettle them by rehoming them, or we feel that their ongoing needs are so complex that they would be best staying here and benefitting from our experience and specialist vet. On occasion the wildlife we care for doesn’t recover well enough to survive back out in the wild. We have a small aviary here in which we can accommodate a small number of disabled pigeons.
The costs of keeping these animals is, however, the largest burden on our very limited finances. As well as their day to day feeding, bedding etc, those with health issues can run up significant vet bills.
Consequently we very much appreciate any help we can get with the costs of caring for our special residents. Sponsoring an animal costs just 2 pounds a month for pigeons, hamsters, gerbils and mice, and 5 pounds a month for rats, degus and chinchillas. Sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship with an exclusive colour photograph, and regular updates on the animals’ progress. You can meet our residents here.
