Since 2004 we have cared for more than 1200 small pets from mice to chinchillas. What has struck us most in that time is the tremendous lack of knowledge and understanding of these animals. Pets shops hand them over for a few quid no questions asked, they then sell them housing and accessories which are sometimes cruel and dangerous and these poor creatures are condemned to live miserable, unhealthy lives. Their size, price and status as a child’s pet often leads people to assume they don’t have the same needs as larger pets but they too suffer pain, boredom and mental trauma. Through our small pet advice site we aim to educate new rodent owners about the needs of their pets and campaign for better recognition of their needs and rights.
