The Starlight Trust is an animal welfare and rescue organisation based in Surrey

You should find the answers to most of your queries on this website and the most frequently asked questions are answered below. Please take a moment to read the FAQs before contacting us as time spent answering queries already answered here takes us away from our core activities. During busy periods we regret that we may not be able to respond to messages concerning topics covered in the FAQs.

No, I’m afraid not. We specialise in small caged pets and pigeons. For any other animal please have a look at the links page for ideas of other rescues who might be able to help.

We will try wherever possible though we are a small rescue so we often have a waiting list. Please see our rehoming page for more info.

Unfortunately not. Although we do rescue pigeons, we have very very limited space since we’re just a tiny rescue operating from our home. We have regular sources of needy pigeons which keep us more than full so we’ve made the difficult decision not to accept pigeons from the general public going forward. You can find details of other rescues at helpwildlife.co.uk

The Starlight Trust operates a small home run rescue which means we have no funds to pay staff and we’re unable to accept any offers of help with the animals here or accommodate work experience placements currently. There are other ways you can get involved which you can see here.

Unfortunately we are not able to accept visitors. As well as the small pets we also have nervous dogs and wild birds here so we need to minimise disruption for their sake. Having visitors would also mean we would have to pay for licenses and insurance and we prefer to spend our limited funds directly on the animals. One day perhaps we’ll have a big purpose built centre but, for now, we must work around the restrictions of operating from our little house 😉 We appreciate you may wish to “check us out” before adopting from or surrendering to us and we welcome as many questions as you would like to ask. We can also provide references from other rescues and adopters on request.

Unfortunately we aren’t able to offer talks or visits. We are a very small charity with very limited resources and we simply don’t have the time to devote to these activities currently. We are grateful for your interest in our work, however, so thank you.

We can use some such donations – apologies if we seem ‘picky’ but it’s simply because our space is so limited because we run from our spare room, and we don’t want to end up throwing away things we can’t use or fit in.

We are very grateful for donations of hamster/mouse/gerbil/rat/chinchilla/degu/pigeon food, hay, paper or cardboard bedding materials, newspaper and shredded paper. Essentially any safe consumables. We also appreciate small towels such as those up to hand towel size.

We appreciate offers of but regret we cannot use cat/dog/rabbit/guinea pig food, sawdust and woodshavings, large towels.

We appreciate offers of but regret we do not have space for non consumable rodent equipment such as cages, hutches, tanks, carry boxes, bottles, hammocks, houses, wheels, balls etc.

We really appreciate being thought of for donations like these and we’re sad that we can’t accept more of them. Our links page contains details of other rescues in the area who might appreciate such donations.
