Hands-on volunteering

The Starlight Trust is an animal welfare and rescue organisation based in Surrey

As we are run from our home we are currently unable to host volunteers here to help with the animals directly. We’re also unable to accept work experience, Duke of Edinburgh and similar placements for the same reason. However, there are other ways you can get involved practically if you’re reasonably local to us in Wallington, SM6.

  • Pigeon fostering. For this you’ll need to have space in your garden for an aviary. Find out more here.
  • Collect, sort and sell donated goods. We often get offers of cages, wheels, toys etc and unfortunately we just don’t have space to take them in here. We’re looking for someone local perhaps with a shed or garage who could receive these donations for us, sort them and sell them through eBay etc to help raise funds.
  • Animal transport. We always need local helpers to collect animals coming into us, transport animals to/from the vet etc
  • Facilities management. We don’t have a big centre or site but we do find ourselves in need of some help in maintaining and improving what we have e.g. making shelves and nests for our aviaries, electrical work in our animal room, adding an outside tap to help with cleaning, replastering damaged areas of the animal room walls.

If you can help with any of the above please send an email to volunteering@starlighttrust.org.uk including details of relevant skills, experience etc.
