The Starlight Trust will, in order to carry out our day to day operations and meet our objectives, collect information about the following people for the following reasons
Those who surrender animals to us, to ensure a complete history on the animal
Those who adopt animals from us in order to check their suitability as a home and keep in touch with the animals after adoption
Those who support our work through donations in order to thank them for their support, claim gift aid where applicable and keep them informed about our work in future
Those who support our work through volunteering in order to check their suitability as a volunteer and keep in touch with them to provide tasking and information
Information collected may, additionally, be used to
send periodic (no more than quarterly) newsletters to those who have expressed an interest in our work. The option to unsubscribe from such communications will always be provided
inform future decisions about applications to adopt our animals
provide reference information to other rescue organisations from which an individual might apply to adopt an animal
The Starlight Trust will not
pass information on to other organisations for the purposes of marketing or fundraising
use the information gathered to send donation or fundraising requests, other than within the aforementioned newsletter.
The information we hold will only be accessed by our trustees and a small number of volunteers all of whom have agreed to process the data in accordance with our Data Protection Policy. Failure to do so would result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of their relationship with the trust.
Data Protection Policy
The trust is committed to ensuring any personal data will be dealt with in line with the Data Protection Act 1998. To comply with the law, personal information will be collected and used fairly, stored safely and not disclosed to any other person unlawfully.
In line with the Data Protection Act 1998 principles, The Starlight Trust will ensure that personal data will:
Be obtained fairly and lawfully and shall not be processed unless certain conditions are met
Be obtained for a specific and lawful purpose
Be adequate, relevant but not excessive
Be accurate and kept up to date
Not be held longer than necessary
Be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects
Be subject to appropriate security measures
Not to be transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA)
The trust will take steps to ensure that personal data is kept secure at all times against unauthorised or unlawful loss or disclosure.
